Moving to stay alive

Brazil-Venezuela

For the past five years I've been following the movement of Venezuelans throughout Latin America. According to the United Nations, close to six million Venezuelans have fled their country since 2018. On foot, by bus, boat or air Venezuelan families look for better oportunities for themseleves and their families. Some countries have been welcoming, others less so, with harsher migration policies and xenophobic reactions from the host communities. In 2019 I travelled with a group of Venezuelans from Pacaraima on the border with Brasil, all the way to Lima, Peru. Treks through the jungle, days spent on boats on the Amazon river and hour long bus rides got them closer to a new life.
